Overview

Departments
The College of Education at Texas State University offers programs in three academic departments: Curriculum and Instruction that includes EC-4, 4-8, and 8-12 ,Special Education, and Bilingual Education teacher preparation programs; Educational Administration and Psychological Services that includes School and Family Counseling, School Psychology, Adult and Developmental Education, and Educational Administration programs; and Health, Physical Education, and Recreation that includes Exercise Science, Health, Physical Education, and Recreation programs.


Educator Preparation and Certification
Teacher preparation constitutes the largest proportion of programming in the College of Education and is a campus-wide commitment at Texas State. Historically, Texas State University has been and continues to the the largest university-based teacher preparation entity in Texas. Many academic departments offer core curriculum courses and major/minor courses, while the College of Education offers courses necessary for educator certification. Programs leading to teacher certification are available for elementary, middle, high school and all-level teachers.

Degrees and Programs

The College of Education also offers a strong array of degrees and programs outside of educator preparation. The Department of Educational Administration offers degrees and certificates for Licensed Professional Counseling and Developmental and Adult Education. The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation offers degrees and programs in Exercise and Sports Science, Athletic Training, Athletic Training with a Pre-Physical Therapy emphasis, Health and Fitness Management, Health and Wellness Promotion, Recreation Administration, and Therapeutic Recreation.

Doctoral Studies

The College of Education offers two doctoral degree programs. One is a Doctor of Philosophy degree with a major in School Improvement, and the other is a Doctor of Philosophy degree with a major in Adult, Professional, and Community Education.
