Commencement Program
The preliminary commencement program draft for Spring 2024 is now available. Please visit the Candidate FAQ page on the Commencement website for program name review.
Name
If you indicated 'Yes' on the graduation application to 'Permitting Your Name to be Printed in the Commencement Program':
Your name will show in the program and on your diploma as it appears in the University Student Information System (i.e, Degree Audit).
Name changes must be submitted to the Registrar's Office with the appropriate documentation.
NOTE: the Registrar's Office will not change your name to anything other than your legal name.
Honors Status
A full explanation of the 'Graduation with Honors' policy can be found in the online Undergraduate Catalog and is summarized below:
To receive the honors designation you must have earned at least 48 Texas State credit hours upon completion of your final semester and earned the required Texas State GPA (3.40-3.59 = Cum Laude3; 3.60-3.79 = Magna Cum Laude2; 3.80-4.00 = Summa Cum Laude1).
Honors designation in the Commencement Program is based on the cumulative Texas State GPA at the time of application submission. This may differ from what ultimately appears on the diploma since final grade posting occurs in the week following Commencement.
HONORS CORDS
Graduation applicants who are listed with an honors designation in the printed program will be given honors cords during the Commencement check-in process to wear during the ceremony. As a reminder, applicants should continue to check their Texas State email account for details about the check-in process as the date of the ceremony approaches.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CLINICAL TEACHING
Successful completion of Clinical Teaching results in a letter grade of Credit ("CR") on the transcript. While a grade of "CR" does factor into a student's Texas State hour count (including for the purpose of determining 'graduation with honors' eligibility), it won't factor in to any Grade Point Average (GPA) calculations.
