Probationary Certificate

Students are only eligible for a probationary certificate if they are approved for an internship.  Internship paperwork must be filled out in the certification office before you follow the steps below.

To proceed with the application:
You have already created an account with SBEC, so please find your login information and have it ready.  To start this process, go to www.sbec.state.tx.us.

Then follow the instructions below.
1.    Click on the link for “Apply for my Certification”.
2.    Login using your previously created username and password.
3.    Click on the link for “Applications” on the left hand side of the page.
4.    Click on “Probationary certificate”, then follow the instructions and answer all of the questions related to that application.  Make sure and select "Texas State University-San Marcos" as your recommending entity.
5.    Pay the fee for the Probationary certificate, preferably online, but you can pay with a check through snail mail.
6.    The State of Texas requires all new teachers to complete a national FBI fingerprint background check.  Request a fingerprint packet AND pay the fingerprinting fee of $47.00 to SBEC/TEA so that you can complete the fingerprinting background check.  In order to participate in the digital fingerprint scan, you must pay the fingerprinting fee online. The Certification Officer will recommend you for the certificate once your approval and the following information are verified:

•  The school district that has hired you
•  Your start date
•  The grade levels you will be working with

Please make sure the certification office has all of the information it needs for you.  If you have questions concerning this application, please email Carolyn McCall at cm06@txstate.edu.
