You have already created an account with SBEC, so please find your login information and have it ready. To start this process, please go to
www.sbec.state.tx.us.
Then follow the instructions below.
1. Click on the link for “
Apply for my Certification”.
2. Login using your previously created username and password.
3. Click on the link for “Applications” on the left hand side of the page.
4. Click on
“Standard Texas Certificate Program”, then follow the instructions and answer all of the questions related to that application. The entity you will select is
“Texas State University-San Marcos University Based”.
5. Pay the $77.00 fee for the standard certificate, preferably online. (You can pay with a check through snail mail.)
6. The State of Texas requires all new teachers to complete a national FBI fingerprint background check. Request a fingerprint packet AND pay the fingerprinting fee of $47.00 to SBEC/TEA so that you can complete the fingerprinting background check.
In order to participate in the digital fingerprint scan, you must pay the fingerprinting fee online. (http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/faq_fingerprinting.asp?width=1440&height=900) Megan Rios, Certification Officer, will recommend you once all of the following have been completed:
• You have passed all of the required certification exams.
• You have completed and have a grade for student teaching or equivalent.
• Your bachelor’s degree is posted to your transcript.
SBEC will not issue the certificate until you have paid all of the fees, Texas State has recommended you, and your fingerprint background check results have come back with no problems. If you have questions, please contact Megan Rios at md25@txstate.edu.
