Post-Graduate Teacher Certification

Texas State University-San Marcos offers a traditional teacher education preparation program. Students in our program must complete the following requirements:
Eligibility requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education  
  • 2.5 overall GPA on all transcripted coursework OR 2.75 on last 60 hours of transcripted coursework OR 3.0 GPA on 24 new hours taken after initial degree was awarded
  • Or holding a master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Admission to the university through the Graduate College as a degree-seeking student in any masters degree program
Steps for applying to the Post-Baccalaureate Program:
1.  Attend a mandatory Information Session regarding our program.  These sessions are held frequently throughout each semester.  Call 512-245-3050 to sign up for the next available session.
2.  Apply to the university through the Graduate College.  You can apply as either a teacher certification only student ($10.00), or masters degree with teacher certification student ($40.00).  For more information go to www.gradcollege.txstate.edu.
3.  Once you have been admitted into the Graduate College, apply for your certification plan.  This application has a fee of $75.00 and is paid to the Center for Student and Professional Services in the Education building, room ED 2143.
