Some courses in the College of Education are "blocked" together. This means that the courses have an integrated curriculum and utilize cohort learning groups. Field-based blocks are held at local public schools, allowing students to gain hands-on experience prior to student teaching. For field-based blocks, students must apply for a block placement with the
Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Block applications should be submitted prior to advance registration. So, if you want to begin your field-based in a Fall semester, then you should apply for a block placement in early March, before advance registration for the Fall semester. On the other hand, if you want to begin your field-based in a Spring semester, then you should apply for a block placement in early October, before advance registration for the Spring semester.
You must have at least a 2.50 Texas State University GPA, have completed CI 3310 or an equivalent course with a grade of "C" or better, and have completed at least 60 hours in order to receive a block placement.
