An Academy participant is an experienced certified teacher recommended by a school district who has at least two (2) years teaching experience as an EC-4 teacher. Certified teachers who are recommended must participate in the Academy's mentoring/induction program and agree to participate in all aspects of the Academy, including Learning Academy Seminars. Submitting an application to the academy indicates a commitment to serve as a teacher in the nominating district or in a district that is defined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as high need.
The purpose of the Math, Science & Technology (MST) Teacher Preparation Academies is to improve the instructional skills of certified EC-4 teachers to perform at the highest levels in mathematics, science, and technology. Although mathematics is the major focus of this academy, science and technology will be integrated in the program. The goal of the program is to increase effective math, science, and technology teaching by increasing the number of Texas teachers who are master teachers and who hold a Master's of Education in Mathematics. It is anticipated that Academy participants will be better able to prepare students to be college ready in mathematics, and technology.
Participants have an opportunity to earn a Master Math Teacher EC-4 Credential and Master's of Education Degree.
Tuition and books are covered by MST Grant if participant is from a high risk school district.
