For the 11th year, David Caverly (Dept. of C&I), Russ Hodges (Dept. of EAPS), and Lucy MacDonald (Professor Emeritus, Chemeketa College, Salem, OR) hosted their Technology Institute for Developmental Educators at Texas State during the week of July 26-31. TIDE went international as 3 developmental educators from South Africa joined 35 colleagues from over a dozen different states to learn how to integrate technology into their instruction by day and how to relax in the Texas hill country by night. Workshops included Creating Audio and Video Podcasts, Best Practices for Online or Hybrid Classes, Developing Web Pages, Moodle and Google Docs, Learning through Online Discussions, Advanced Multimedia or Basic Applications, Assistive Technology, Video Conferencing with Connect, Technology and Professional Development, as well as Instructional Uses of Blogs, Wikis, and Second Life.
In addition to Caverly, Hodges, and MacDonald, this year’s TIDE mentors included Scott McDaniels (Assistant Professor, Middle Tennessee State) and Doug Holschuh (Dept. of C&I) along with TIDE staff Mike Bolles (C&I), Mike Caverly (C&I), Randy Dale (EAPS), Doug Ray (Mathematics), Maria Stoessel-Puente (C&I), Shawn Peterson (Mathematics), Katie MacInnis (Mathematics), and Anne Ward (Assoc. Professor, Austin Community College). This conference could not have been successful without the able assistance of Floyd Stull, Patrick Smith, Rori Parks Sheffield, Jan Carmack, Emin Salagmer, Whitten Smart, Don Nunley, and Brad Johnson.
