The Central Texas Writing Project (CTWP) is one of nearly 200 university-based sites of the National Writing Project. The CTWP was started in 1998 and has developed a network of more than 180 exemplary teachers of writing in the central Texas area. Like all National Writing Project sites, the CTWP hosts an annual 5-week intensive Summer Institute for K-college teachers and is funded through the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, the CTWP hosts a number of events throughout the year. These include youth writing camps, professional development for teachers, writing retreats, an annual teachers’ conference, and one-week open institutes.
For students ages 6-18, day camps meet in July at Texas State University-San Marcos or at the Round Rock Higher Education Center. Ages 6-8 and 9-11 meet two weeks in the mornings (July 6-10 and July 13-17). Ages 12-14 meet the same two weeks in the afternoons. Ages 15-18 have two options. The High School Creative Writing camp is one week from July 20-24 and there is also a SAT preparation camp that meets 4 Saturdays.
