Overview

The Division of Educational Research and Faculty Development

In summer, 2008, the Division was renamed 'The Division of Educational Research and Faculty Development' to increase the focus on the faculty development aspects of the Division's mission.

The Division of Educational Research was originally formed in January of 2006 to architect a research infrastructure and create a leading-edge Education Research Center within the College of Education at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Progress as of November, 2007 includes

  • Implementation of a self-financing, state of the art survey service for creating, fielding, and managing large or small surveys in multiple languages. The service utilizes a line of powerful survey research tools from the SPSS Dimensions platform.
  • Acquisition of a dedicated high speed scanner, computer and software which are capable of acquiring optical recognition (OCR) for Likert-type items, image blocks for essay type items and barcode fields.
  • Establishment of research training seminars on advanced analysis methods and software tools that give researchers more important insights into research data, insights that might be missed using more basic methods.
  • Establishment of consulting services to assist researchers in mastering the use of advanced and emerging research design and analysis methodologies and software.
  • Acquisition of significant grant funds to establish the Division and support research within the college
  • Establishment of a community to support faculty success in acquiring grant funding and designing and conducting high integrity research projects (Research Colloquium, Scholar / Mentor, and Faculty Fellow Programs).
  • Acquisition of a database server for data collection, warehousing, and management.
  • Hiring of a data manager to conceptualize, design, and implement a research database of teacher education data to facilitate the conduct of qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method cross-sectional and longitudinal educational and interdisciplinary research.
  • Creation of a software library for use in qualitative and quantitative research.
