Overview
The College of Education (COE) at Texas State University – San Marcos is pleased to invite faculty to participate in the Scholar/Mentor Program. The program is targeted for tenure-track faculty who seek to develop their scholarly writing and publication skills in a supportive and collegial environment. Tenure-track faculty are invited to apply as Mentees and Tenured faculty are invited to apply as Mentors for this year-long program (September – August). There are two paths to participation. Applicants may apply individually or as a Mentee/Mentor team. Individuals who apply as either a Mentee or Mentor will be paired. Mentors will receive a stipend of $500 during the first semester of the academic year. Mentors will receive an additional $500 after successful completion and submission of an article to a peer-reviewed journal or a grant proposal.
Goals
The overall goal of the Scholar/Mentor program is to improve tenure-track faculty’s scholarly writing and publication skills. To achieve this goal, the objectives of this program are to help tenure-track faculty:
1. Learn how to write more coherently and clearly;
2. Develop effective time management practices/habits, thereby increasing the time available for manuscript and/or grant writing;
3. Better understand the writing, submission, review, and publication process(e)s;
4. Develop collegial relationships with other scholars; and
5. Gain greater confidence in conducting, writing, and submitting manuscripts/grants.
Design
The success of this program depends on pairing tenure-track faculty, who are highly motivated in developing their writing and publication skills, with tenured faculty, who are actively engaged in research and scholarship.
Eligibility
All tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply for this award. All tenure-track faculty are eligible to participate as a Mentee. However, first time applicants will be given preference. All tenured faculty are eligible to participate as a Mentor. No limit exists to the number of times a tenured faculty may participate as a Mentor.
