1. Admittance to Teacher Education
To be certified to teach in Texas, students at Texas State University must first apply and be admitted to the Teacher Preparation Program. The Office of Educator Preparation will collect information required for admittance. More information is available on this web page.
2. Field Experience
Our office will assist post-baccalaureate students needing to complete an experience in a public school. The contact person for this phase of teacher certification is Romy Adame-Wilson at ra1167@txstate.edu.
3. Student Teaching
Our office works with all students in the teacher preparation program during their student teaching semester to provide placement and supervision. The contact for student teaching is Betty Harrison at eh22@txstate.edu.
4. Testing for Certification
Our office will assist all students in the teacher preparation or professional certification programs in registering for the appropriate certification exams. We also are responsible for administering practice tests for many areas of certification. The contact for requesting TExES exam approval is Annette Hamon at ah42@txstate.edu.
5. Certification through TEA/SBEC
Our office must recommend students seeking any certificate through the state after they apply to the state. Information regarding how to apply is located here. The certification officer for Texas State University is Ernesto Munoz at em59450@txstate.edu.
