For Post Baccalaureate Students Seeking Teaching Certification in Texas

Eligibility

 

THE APPLICANT MUST

Currently hold a degree in math, science, engineering, technology, or related degree.

Have at least a 2.75 G.P.A.

Meet Office of Educator Preparation admittance requirements for a
post-baccalaureate student.
 

Commit to teach science or math in grades 4-12 in high needs schools* in Texas.
 

Commit to become certified to teach in Texas in one of the following:

4th - 8th
Math or Science

8th - 12th
Chemistry
Life Science
Mathematics
Math/Science
Physical Science

NOTE: The applicant cannot be currently enrolled in another certification program.

*High needs schools are defined by each school based on the number of students receiving free or reduced lunch.

 

STEPS  to complete in order to receive the McSTEM GRANT

 

1.  Accepted as a Texas State University Student and meet the eligibility requirements for the grant by August 2011.

AWARD

A one-time stipend in the amount of $4000 will be awarded upon successful completion of 15 hours from the following courses towards certification in science and/or mathematics education.

Must Take in Spring 2012

CI 5333 The Secondary Curriculum (3-0)

CI 5370 Classroom Management, Discipline, and Legal Issues

CI 5363 Strategies for Improving Secondary Teaching OR   Bio 5305 Methods of Nature Studies in Biology For Biology Majors Only

Must Take in Summer 2012

CI 5314 Advanced Human Growth and Development
RDG 5324
