Reading: HISTORY 1310 and 1320 and POLITICAL SCIENCE 2310 and 2320 or a course equivalent to these
Written Communication: English 1310 and ENG 1320 or their equivalents
Critical Thinking: PHIL 1305 or PHIL 1320 or its equivalent
Mathematics: MATH 1315 or 1319 or 2417 or 2471 for Interdisciplinary Studies majors or the mathematics course(s) required for the selected major for high school and all-level certificates.
(3) Completion of COMMUNICATION 1310 or its equivalent with a "B" or better to demonstrate competency in oral communication.
Students who earn a grade of "C" should schedule an interview with an OEP staff member. A grade in COMMUNICATION 1310 that is below "C" must be repeated.
Undergraduates must enroll in either (1) an education-focused University Seminar 1100 course or (2) a Teacher Education Admittance Seminar. Undergraduates must provide documentation of at least six hours of volunteer experience with students grades Pre-K - 12th to the Office of Educator Preparation.

(5) Apply to the Teacher Preparation ProgramYou must be accepted to Texas State University and have satisfied all of the requirements to apply to the Teacher Preparation Program (see criteria for admittance above). The purpose of these examinations is to ensure that each educator has the content and professional knowledge necessary to perform in Texas public schools. Student TeachingStudent teaching is the required culminating experience of the teacher certification process. This is a one-semester (six credit hours), unpaid, full-time experience in a local public school classroom. No other courses should be taken with student teaching without prior approval from the Co-Director of the Office of Educator Preparation.
