Research Incentive Opportunity (RIO)

The new Research Incentive Opportunity (RIO) provides incentives to College of Education tenured and tenure-track faculty seeking external funding for research projects totaling at least $100,000 in direct costs.

RIO seeks to change the culture of waiting for a formal call for applications before seeking feedback from funders on the viability and strength of faculty research projects. ORSP staff will guide and support eligible COE faculty as they (1) develop a work plan to operationalize their research idea, and (2) craft a two-page concept paper that will be submitted to a targeted external funder. Based on funder feedback, faculty will then (3) prepare and submit a full proposal.

Faculty identified as Principal Investigator (PI) on the proposed project will receive $500 for completing the work plan and submitting the two-page concept paper to targeted funders. An additional $1,000 will be awarded to the PI when a full proposal is submitted to the targeted funder.
