Meetings in Fall of 2019 are 9/17, 10/15, and 11/19, from 5-6pm in ED 3070.

Students who join the Reading Council have the option to join the International Reading Association at the student rate. The first 15 members to join SMSRC will receive a free t-shirt (dues $15).

Each semester, the Reading Council sponsors a read aloud event with  San Marcos Public Library, sharing our literacy teaching with local children, and engaging in crafts and play.  At the Reading Council meetings students hear experienced teachers and highly-qualified speakers who address topics such as classroom diversity, literacy pedagogy, reading across the curriculum, and student motivation.

Membership in the Reading Council provides also multiple opportunities to enhance literacy and leadership skills through planning and implementing community service projects (two read alouds a year, the Little Free Library, and an afterschool book club).

You are invited to join the Reading Council at Texas State. For more information and a membership application contact the sponsor: Dr. Gwynne Ellen Ash.
