Invitational Summer Institute - San Marcos and Round Rock

woman editing

The Invitational Summer Institute (ISI) is the core of the CTWP's professional development programming, and it is an activity that is conducted by all 175+ sites of the National Writing Project across the nation. Teachers who apply for and attend the CTWP Invitational Summer Institute engage with other teachers and site directors to share and explore effective teaching strategies.

The 2020 participants met in a fully virtual format for the first time since 1998 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The participants applied starting in late fall and were interviewed by CTWP directors through the winter and spring. Twenty were invited to attend the institute from June 8 through July 3. All received graduate credit hours through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. When the participants completed the institute, they became Teacher Consultants for the National Writing Project and joined the 400+ Teacher Consultants in the CTWP network. All activities and services offered through the CTWP are provided by Teacher Consultants. (Explore our website to learn about our offerings.)

The San Marcos ISI cohort was guided by Director Liz Stephens and Co-Director Robert Merkett. The Round Rock ISI Co-Directors were Sharon O'Neal and Laura Lee Stroud.

Applications for the 2021 Invitational Summer Institute are available now. It may not be likely that the 2021 event will be delivered virtually, but a determination about format will not be decided until the spring of that year.
