Advanced Institutes for Teacher Consultants

Teacher

The Advanced Institute is designed for Teacher Consultants who want to extend their knowledge and expertise. Advanced Institutes can focus on a particular approach or topic such as assessing student writing.

The aim of Advanced Institute facilitators is to provide an opportunity for the participating teachers to reflect on their own practice in the teaching of writing.

The teachers set professional goals such as designing and sequencing curriculum, and/or aligning curriculum to standards. Other plans for the institute may include exploring current research and trends in areas such as interdisciplinary writing, creative writing, and grammar/mechanics.

Advanced Institutes can be held at Texas State University, a school campus or district location, or other community venue such as a public library or museum. Participants of an Advanced Institute receive Continuing Professional Education hours that can satisfy TEA's requirement for certificate renewal.
