Make fingerprints in small groups.

Question/Answer and reflection in Science journal.

Homework- fingerprint family members.

Share findings from homework. similarities or differences, etc.

Discuss loop, arch and whorl and how to identify prints- identify own prints- students will trade and double check each others findings.

Make classroom chart with class findings.  How many loops, arches, whorls. Reflect in Science journal.

Homework- Make clear thumbprints on two note cards- one with name, one without.

Game with thumbprint cards.

Identify print formulas of the suspects.

Evaluate the evidence, write descriptions in journal and identify thief.   

Homework- 1 paragraph on why criminalists use fingerprints, why is it an accurate way of identification, etc.
