Matters: Solids, Liquids, and Gases

In order to gain an understanding of matter, our second grade class will take a journey through Matter: Solids, Liquids, and Gases.  We will begin our in depth exploration of matter through an introduction to the scientific method as it applies to solids and liquids. During our second activity, the children begin hands on examination of solids and liquids. To further understanding, we will test our student’s knowledge and ability to think critically by having them explore questionable substances, such as shaving cream. After our students grasp the properties of solids and liquids, the concept of matter and its counterpart are introduced. To conclude our unit on matter, students will search for evidence that gases exist.
