Below is the list of materials that will be needed to complete the five activities in the GEMS guide Terrarium Habitats.

2 water misters

2 sponges

1 bag of garden soil

Package of white copy paper

Package of 24 pencils

5 magnifying lenses

Package of 20 plastic spoons

Newspapers to cover tables

20 journals

5 trays

20 vials with lids

Alum

5 measuring cups (1 cup)

5 clear plastic storage boxes with lids

One box of push pins

Sand

Bird seed

Leaves from trees

Small plants (strawberry, ferns, flowers) students can bring from home

Twigs

Package of black construction paper

5 rolls of masking tape

5 packages of transparent tape

Earthworms (10 so that each group will have 2)

5 half gallon milk cartons

Package of 20 plastic cups

5 plastic rulers

Isopods (pillbugs, sowbugs)

5 plastic cups with lids

5 raw potatoes

1 roll of paper towels

5 toilet paper rolls

Crickets, slugs, beetles (students can bring from home) need enough for each group

Potatoes, apples, egg shells, carrots, lettuce (students can bring these from home)

Rocks, shells, sticks (students can bring these from home)
