Materials List

For the Class

  • Chart paper
  • Permanent Markers to label boxes
  • 8-16 sturdy empty boxes
  • Extra treasures for students who may not have collected their own and to show students as examples (possible treasures to collect: buttons, shells, rocks, old keys, stamps, foreign coins, barrettes, pencil erasers, puzzle pieces, bolts, pasta in a variety of shapes)
  • A few treasures items the same size, smaller, and larger than the construction paper square
  • A few personal treasures to share with class
  • 1 large box for collecting all class treasures
  • 16 filled treasure boxes
  • 1 shoe from each student
  • Several sheets of chart paper for recording attributes
  • 21 1 ½ x 1 ½ construction paper squares
  • 32 student journals (one per student) or sheets of paper (several per student)
  • 32 pencils
  • 32 copies of the Sample letter to Families
  • 3 pieces of 2”x4” paper to label the Venn diagram
  • 16 cups or other containers to hold a subset of treasure
  • 16 – 36” lengths of yarn in one color for Venn diagrams
  • 16 – 36” lengths of yarn in another color for Venn diagrams *be sure the 2 colors of yarn are very distinct*
  • 16 small plastic bags (for yarn loops)
  • 30 bread tags or another easily visible treasure
  • 25-30 sheets 12x18 construction paper
  • A 48”x108” piece of butcher paper for large class graphing grid
  • 1 ruler/yardstick
  • 34 smaller graphing grids (master on page 91)
  • 16 sheets of 8 ½ x 11 colored card stock to make Game Cards (master on page 57)
  • 12 - 32 pieces of 11”x17” paper for the Hidden Treasure Map gameboard (master on page 93)
  • 16 rubber bands
  • 240 markers (lima beans, plastic disks, etc)
  • 8-16 clean paper cups, each large enough to hold ¼ cup of cereal
  • 1 – 15 oz box of Cherrios or any smaller similar cereal with pieces of uniform shape and size
  • A ¼ cup measuring cup
  • 32 sandwich size Ziploc plastic bags
  •  (optional) a copy of The Doorbell Rang
