2023 College of Education Scholarship Recipients

Kaitlyn Armstrong
Kaitlyn Armstrong is a junior from Cedar Park, Texas, who enjoys volunteering in the community, hanging out with friends and family, and traveling to see new places. After graduation, she plans to further her education by attending graduate school or Physical Therapy school.
Brianna Camarillo
Brianna Camarillo is obtaining her degree to become a certified Bilingual Elementary Educator with a completion date of Spring 2025. When not at school, she is a substitute teacher for Hays CISD. Brianna hopes to teach kindergarten but will happily step into any role she may be needed in. She is excited to help her future students achieve their best potential.
Blanca Estevez
Blanca Estevez is an international student from Mexico studying for a Ph. D. in Developmental Education. Her background is in STEM, with a bachelor's degree and two master's in Chemistry. Due to her experience, her research interests focus on supporting first-generation students, women, and underrepresented minorities transitioning to higher education STEM areas by creating just, equitable, and supportive class environments for such populations.
Monique Freeman
Monique Freeman is a proud wife and mother (of a future Bobcat) She is currently a Special Education English Language Arts Teacher at GOALS Learning Center, in Round Rock ISD. Monique is pursuing a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. She is looking forward to implementing a needs-based school improvement plan, providing high-quality professional development and promoting staff collaboration as campus leadership.
Melissa Garza
Melissa Garza is on track to earn a Ph.D. in Developmental Education at Texas State University. She currently serves as a Senior Research Associate at the Charles Butt Foundation, where she conducts research across Texas to support policy and advocacy development aimed at strengthening the state’s public education system. Her research interests include academic access for culturally and linguistically diverse students, and literacy in border spaces.
Daniela Mambe
Daniela Mambe is obtaining her Master's in Secondary Education with a 7-12 Chemistry certification. She has an interest in working with students from low-income backgrounds and bringing them quality education from an educator who cares. Her goal is to teach abroad at some point during her teaching journey.
Madison McLarry
Madison McLarry is a second-year graduate student in the Public Health Education and Promotion program. She is currently working on research about sexual health on college campuses, as well as serving as the president of Eta Sigma Gamma, which has given her the opportunity to work with the greater San Marcos community.
Sarah Gracey Novosad
Sarah Gracey Novosad is currently a senior at Texas State University with a major in education and a minor in coaching. She is currently student teaching 34 amazing 2nd graders this fall semester at Jack Lewis Jr. Elementary School in San Antonio with an equally amazing cooperating teacher. Gracey will graduate from Texas State in December 2023, that will include jumping in the San Marcos river as a tradition to celebrate graduation. In her spare time, Gracey loves to engage in sports including volleyball and basketball, and being a dog mom to her chiweenie, Wiley.
Yvette M. Regalado
Yvette M. Regalado is a doctoral candidate in the Developmental Education program in the Curriculum and Instruction College. Her research and professional foci include cultural and community practices in curriculum and instruction. As a practitioner-scholar-activist, Yvette is passionate about diversifying the curriculum and creating equitable spaces in the K-16 pipeline.
Christina Romero
Christina Romero is an elementary school theatre teacher with experience teaching theatre, elementary dual language, bilingual, and special education classes. Christina is grateful to be developing as an educational leader as a student in the Educational Leadership program at Texas State University.
