Creating Your Own Rock Band

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Next week our class will begin a unit on the mathematics of creating their own rock band. Students will be asked to use their mathematical knowledge to analyze both the musical and business concepts involved in the project. The students will be taught all of the non-mathematical topics that will be necessary to succeed in this project.

Students will be developing a portfolio and making one final presentation and may choose to use poster boards or other visual aids. Materials used for presentations will need to be purchased by the students. The school will provide all materials needed to create the material for their portfolio. Students will be graded both on their individual work and work within the group. They will be graded for the ability to stay within the given guidelines as well as for the completeness of the assignments.

If you have any questions, please contact me by phone or email. Please ask your son or daughter about what they are learning. It will give them an opportunity to practice for their presentation and you may learn some interesting things about how mathematics can be related to music.
